Anniversary Vacation Day 2 in Paradise - 10 Years to NOW!

By Coach Colleen | May 12, 2009

Served coffee in bed. Isn’t my true love wonderful?

We’ve taken many vacations over our 10 years together and we wanted this one to be different. We wanted to relax, get up late and just hang together.

NOT, we awoke to wave action muffled by riotous tropical birds. Red cardinals, yellow finches, love doves and some other bird that stands up like a penguin called us to action – get up this is paradise!

What to do? Where to go? It was time for another cup of coffee on the deck just watching the waves and settling into the heat. It was hot! 85 degrees and humid.

It was nearly noon when we started our explorations.

First we went to the famous black sand beach about ½ mile from our hideaway. But that is not what caught our eye – there was a huge sea turtle on the beach. As we approached from the opposite end of the beach, we watched it turn and scoot back into the water. Horrified at our loss, we just watched several turtles play in the surf. Tourist! said the Turtle

Good luck? Bad luck? Who Knows.

This might have been the best thing that could have happened to us because it prompted us to go snorkeling. The guide book said it was snorkelable if calm? (Is snorkelable even a word?) What does calm mean? We asked a local who said this was as good as it gets. So, in we went.

I put my fins and mask on and ducked my mask under the water to see Mar putting on her fins and backing into a turtle about 1 foot behind her. I did some sort of flailing motions getting her to stop and turn around and look. Amazing animals – just gliding through the water.

Our second day in Hawaii and we were swimming with sea turtles on a black sand beach!

I wonder if sea turtle mate for life. Do they celebrate anniversaries? Do they mark time? Do they live in any time except the now?

Being in the NOW, in the moment experiencing a tropical paradise together, was one of our goals for this vacation. We wanted to leave work and the cares of everyday life behind for these 7 days.

Swimming with the turtles was truly a NOW experience and the highlight of our second day. Even Eckhart Tolle would be proud.

Coach Colleen
Proud to be in love and proud to be learning how to be more in love every day.
True love’s gonna be like mango’s.

P.S. Total true love is more than I ever imagined. It grows every day even after 10 years. And it is as much about my internal growth and self love. Hmmm maybe I should write lessons -tips- learned in the first 10 years.

P.S.S. These entries are written as if I’m still on vacation, I’m back home and working. I had every intention of publishing entries and photos each day. Here is tip number 1 - don’t combine work and anniversary vacations. There is a time and a season for everything from the song TurnTurn Turn (remember the Byrds and their lyric source). Be with number one during together time - a 10-year anniversary vacation is one of those times.

You only have one of those and you have years to write about it. Oh yeah - it’s called being in the now. Living in the moment for that moment truly being with that wonderful person you have chosen to spend your life with. It is worth it.
