Find True Love Sitting by A River?

You can find true love by a river, in the forest or doing the dishes. It’s all about listening to what you can tell yourself. You find your soul mate by communing with your own soul. Let me explain a bit…
This morning I was re-reading Journey of Awakening by Ram Dass and one passage struck home. I’d like to share it with you. I added the emphasis.
Perhaps at some time you have sat quietly by the side of an ocean or river. At first there is one big rush of sound. Listening quietly, you begin to hear a multitude of subtle sounds: the waves hitting the shore, the rushing current of the river. In that peacefulness and silence of mind you experience precisely what is happening. It is the same when you listen to yourself. At first all you can hear is “self” or “I,” but slowly this self is revealed as a mass of changing elements, thoughts, feelings, emotions and images, all illuminated simply by listening, by paying attention.
Listening to the still small voice within, being mindful, being aware, being conscious are all ways of revealing what true love means to you. Some specific techniques are meditation and visualization. Some use prayer. Use what works for you.
If you don’t know what works for you, give meditation a try or visualization or maybe even prayer. Tomorrow, I’ll outline a method of prayer that you can try.
There are lots of books on meditation, Ram Dass’s book Journey of Awakening is a classic.
