Grieving and true love
By Coach Colleen | December 7, 2006
Last night I went to a grief service. After a brief meditation/visualization where we interacted with our grief, we were directed to ask grief what it had to tell us. If you don’t do visualizations, this may sound a little corny to you, but it was a powerful exercise. So powerful that most of the audience shared what grief had to say to us.
For me, I received two gifts. One was through the voice of my nephew who died at age 19. My gift through him was to be gracious in the world. Lately, I have been a little (ok, a lot) demanding of the world.
My second gift was to live my passion rather than sell my passion. I’ve yet to work out the details, but stay tuned. It will be worth it.
If you close your eyes, what grief would visit you? Would it be the loss of a loved one like my nephew Billy. Or, maybe the loss of a dream as you visualized it, like I experienced with my passion. I grieved not getting my dream MY WAY. This may sound silly but the theme song for my personality style is I did it my way.
Well, one thing leads to another and lately I’ve been listening to a song by Debby Voltaire titled Who’s in the way but me. I have been getting in my own way. I’ve been very mad at myself, mad at the world, mad at God.
One way grief manifests in our lives is through anger. Mine sure did.
What is grief saying to you? Take a moment in a private, safe place and ask grief to speak to you.
