Looks Find True Love? What?
By Coach Colleen | January 7, 2009
Hello again,
I’m going to tell a story on myself as an illustration of a point I am not sure I like, but it is life as we know it. So here goes.
Years ago, you would only see me in blue jeans, a flannel shirt and hiking boots. Makeup? Never, I was a purist.
And, just so you know, I rarely dated.
Was it because I never wore makeup? Well, yes and no. I did not do the ‘girly’ things that my younger sisters did. I was one of those tomboys who rebelled against society’s version of a good woman - size 2. I wasn’t a size two when I was in 8th grade and I never was going to be. Inside I was mad, hurt and a little ashamed. So, I couldn’t join the size 2 club, so I rebelled.
Is that why I didn’t get many dates? My answer to that question is absolutely.
Now, that brings up another question - were those the kinds of dates I wanted. The answer is NO and YES. I was rebelling so no I didn’t want to attract dates who wanted me because of how I looked. And, yes, I did want to go out. I was jealous of my friends, but couldn’t bring myself to change.
It took me doing media appearances to finally learn how to properly put on makeup for my specific face. My very fashionable younger sister stopped in her tracks and looked at my eyes the first time she saw me.
Once I got out of my ‘rebellion’ shell, I could learn to be me and wear makeup. I learned that the cloths didn’t make the woman, but they did make her look good.
If you are struggling, so to a makeup shop and have a trained makeup artist show you what to do based on your parameters not hers. Don’t go to the mall and get a makeover, go to a speciality shop. They do it for free. Well, I did buy a lot of makeup, but my photo shoots where great. I have good skin and it DOES look better under makeup.
That’s my tip for today. And, all that being said, true love is an inside job.
