Making Room for Love
By Coach Colleen | January 11, 2006
You might not think draining a swimming pool has any similarity to finding true love, but it does. Today I drained gallons of water out of my pool because of exceptionally heavy rains. The pool was full, it was at capacity, it could take not even a drop more.
We are like that. We are often at capacity because we haven’t drained our old “stuff” to make room for the new. What does this look like. For me, I got rid of all the negative reminders of a past relationships. But, some of those things I loved. Well, someone else will love them too.
Here’s one example. I had two 5-foot long, 3-inch in diameter, curly cedar roots. They were so unique and beautiful. I knew I could make something lovely out of them one day. Each time I looked at them I thought about that relationship and wondered how I could have been so silly. I’d catch my self saying “Colleen, what were you thinking? You knew it was not right from very near the beginning. Why didn’t you listen to yourself?”
I don’t like to be chastised for things that are over and done with, especially by myself. Yet, that was exactly what I was doing every time I looked at those beautiful pieces of wood. So, I gave them to a woodworker who was ecstatic to get them. She had all my potential and none of my regrets.
I gave myself a little capacity just like draining the pool. If the pool was left to overflow, the earth would become oversaturated and slide down the hill. Clearing my space of negative vibs, negative self talk, and negative self-reproach allowed me to be receptive not slide downhill.
Do you feel like you’re sliding downhill at times? If this hits a cord for you, try out this process and let me know what happens.

Colleen, this is a great line: she had all my potential and none of my regrets. Living from potential is so much more exciting than keeping a store room full of symbols of regret. I’m SOOO glad you drained out your regrets and created space for true love.
