Service: Finding True Love
By Coach Colleen | June 15, 2008
Hi all,
I read a very moving article on helping versus fixing versus serving. Here are a few of the highlights.
Helping is based on inequality … Service is a relationship between equals
Helping incurs debt … Serving is healing and mutual
When fixing I perceive someone as broken (judgment) … When service I see and trust the wholeness in someone (connection)
When fixing and helping we are being practical, concrete and specific … When we serve, we are serving the wholeness and mystery of life
Helping and fixing might be activities of the ego … Service is the activity of the soul
I realized that for some time now I have been in the helping mode … I even say I help people find true love. I was sucked into the ‘market’ to the pain mentality. It might get sales for others but that is not the type of sales I want to participate in.
I want to serve the wholeness in you, in myself, in everyone.
A great psychologist, Carkoff, had as a core concept the principle of respect. He defined respect as trusting that everyone has their own answers inside of them. This is the basis of my belief about life, and I sometimes get confused that I have the answers to your problems.
I don’t have your answers. What I have is a fun process that you use to find your own answers. This doesn’t sell as well as giving people the answers. One internet marketer says don’t teach people how to fish, give them the fish - or something that passes for the fish.
I’ve tried to do that - not working for me. And, since this is my life, I get to do what I want. Finding the true love within myself in terms of marketing is about teaching people to fish. I do that with a self-coaching products. The fish you catch is yourself.
